Support for Healthcare Providers
HIV vaccine trial participants can test HIV vaccine-induced seropositive (VISP) or Vaccine-Induced Seroreactive (VISR) even if they are not infected with HIV. A standard HIV antibody test could provide positive results in your patient for several years, even though they are not infected with HIV.
If someone wrongly believes your patient is infected with HIV, they could face stigma, discrimination and/or other problems, such as:
- Limitations to medical or dental care
- Employment restrictions
- Difficulty with obtaining insurance
- Rejection of a visa application for travelling
- Inability to donate blood or organs.
An HIV-polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test can distinguish a true HIV infection from VISP. PCR testing is the most accurate form of testing as it detects the actual virus, however, this type of test may not be routinely offered in all countries.
Help your patient to avoid an incorrect diagnosis
Janssen has collaborated with Parexel to develop this VISP Testing Service. This service will be provided at no cost to the patient or you. Reimbursement for the additional work required to support this service is available, for you as healthcare provider.
